Frontiers in Energy 2015, Volume 9, Issue 2,   Pages 125-133 doi: 10.1007/s11708-015-0346-x

Abstract: The thermal behavior of combustion in air atmosphere were investigated by performing experiments on STA PT1600 Thermal Analyzer at heating rates of 10°C/min, 40°C/min and 70°C/min and range of temperatures from room temperature to 1200°C. The kinetic parameters were evaluated by using Kissinger and Ozawa methods. The result showed that combustion occurred in five stages. Started with initial devolatilization, the main thermal decomposition and combustion process, transition stage, the combustion of char and the last stage was the slow burning reaction of residual char. In line with increasing heating rate, the mass loss rate increased as well, but it delayed the thermal decomposition processes toward higher temperatures. The average activation energy at the main thermal decomposition stage and the stage of char combustion were approximately 251 kJ/mol and 178 kJ/mol, respectively.

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2015, Volume 9, Issue 1,   Pages 71-81 doi: 10.1007/s11709-014-0270-x

Abstract: The present study deals with the study of the velocity distribution and the separation phenomenon of flow of air over a two dimensional backward facing step. The flow of air over a backward facing step has been investigated numerically using FLUENT. Flow simulation has been carried out in a backward facing step having an expansion ratio (ratio of the height before and after the step) of 1:1.94 and the results obtained are compared with the published experimental results. Comparison of flow characteristics between steps with three different transitions is made. The variation of reattachment length for all the three cases are analyzed for wide range of Reynolds number ranging from 100 to 7000 which covers the laminar, transition and turbulent flow of air. Simulation of the flow over steps with expansion ratios of 1:1.24, 1:1.38, 1:1.47, 1:1.53, 1:1.94, 1:2.20 are also carried out to examine the effect of different expansion ratios on the reattachment length. It is found that the primary reattachment length increases with increase in the expansion ratio. The primary reattachment length at the bottom wall downstream of the step is minimum for the step with round edged transition and maximum for the step with a vertical drop transition.

Frontiers of Medicine 2017, Volume 11, Issue 1,   Pages 87-96 doi: 10.1007/s11684-016-0469-4

Abstract:

S100A9, a calcium-binding protein, participates in the inflammatory process and development of various tumors, thus attracting much attention in the field of cancer biology. This study aimed to investigate the regulatory mechanism of and its function involvement in APL. We used real-time quantitative PCR to determine whether PML/RARα affects the expression of in NB4 and PR9 cells upon ATRA treatment. ChIP-based PCR and dual-luciferase reporter assay system were used to detect how PML/RARα and PU.1 regulate promoter activity. CCK-8 assay and flow cytometry were employed to observe the viability and apoptosis of NB4 cells when was overexpressed. Results showed that was an ATRA-responsive gene, and PML/RARα was necessary for the ATRA-induced expression of in APL cells. In addition, PU.1 could bind to the promoter of , especially when treated with ATRA in NB4 cells, and promote its activity. More importantly, overexpression of induced the apoptosis of NB4 cells and inhibited cell growth. Collectively, our data indicated that PML/RARα and PU.1 were necessary for the ATRA-induced expression of in APL cells. Furthermore, promoted apoptosis in APL cells and affected cell growth.

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2015, Volume 10, Issue 4,   Pages 311-325 doi: 10.1007/s11465-015-0352-z

Abstract:

The torso plays an important role in the human-like operation of humanoids. In this paper, a method is proposed to analyze the behavior of the human torso by using inertial and magnetic sensing tools. Experiments are conducted to characterize the motion performance of the human torso during daily routine operations. Furthermore, the forces acting on the human body during these operations are evaluated to design and validate the performance of a humanoid robot.
